Here is something I never expected to discover in the first place.

I was originally trying to install Gemini CLI, with no idea that Google had created another AI CLI called Antigravity CLI. How did I find out? Let me share that experience with you.

When I was setting up the initial configuration, Gemini CLI gave me two options to authenticate: Sign-in or API Key.

Naturally, I chose the faster option: sign-in. But right when it was finishing, something went wrong. A message popped up saying I couldn’t use sign-in mode for Gemini CLI, and if I wanted to sign in that way, I had to use Antigravity CLI instead!

I was so confused—why offer the option if you can’t use it? But honestly, maybe it was a clever way to spark my curiosity and grab my attention, because it definitely worked on me! I asked Gemini to explain the difference, and here is what it told me:

Gemini CLI: Provides responses strictly in text form without modifying anything in your local folders.

Antigravity CLI: Gives you the ability to make changes to your local files, create new project structures, and execute commands directly.

While I was already familiar with Gemini CLI and the Antigravity IDE, Antigravity CLI was completely new to me. Now that I know what it does, I’m definitely giving it a spin!
